#RomCom #AudioBookReview -- Vegas to Varanasi by Shelly Hickman -- #Giveaway inside
Anna has never been the beautiful one; she's always been the nice one. So when the gorgeous man sitting across the table at a wedding reception remembers her from high school - and quite fondly at that - she's taken off guard.
Formerly overweight and unpopular, Kiran has never forgotten Anna, the one person who was kind to him when no one else could be bothered, and Anna's a bit flustered as she slowly comes to grips with his intense attraction for her.
In what feels like a romantic dream come true, all-grown-up, hunky Kiran invites Anna on a trip to Varanasi. But her troubled, whack-a-do ex-boyfriend starts interfering, creating drama at every turn, which begs the question, can nice girls really finish first?
EXCERPT from Vegas to Varanasi:
Disclosure: I received this audiobook as part of my participation in a blog tour with Audiobookworm Promotions. The tour is being sponsored by Shelly Hickman. The gifting of this audiobook did not affect my opinion of it.
Romance novels are so popular. Perhaps, we live in a world where the only romantic attention we can receive is through voyeuristic literary behavior. Personally, I do not like romance. But, somehow, they are growing on me, especially when I come across authors like Shelly!
She has written a charming, sweet, multicultural romance, swirling with a twist of quirky mom humor. Full of dramatic plot twists, almost making you feel like Anna's love life is a "huge karmic joke", From Vegas to Varanasi is an endearing story about a third chance at love.
We meet Anna and Kiran as they reunite after years of a separation. The story discusses several issues, such as women with homosexual spouses, as well as alcohol abuse in relationships.
The characters are lovable and the narrator certainly brings everything to life. From her ethnic accents to her singing, this narrator made this book enjoyable and highly entertaining.
What I liked most is that Anna is a woman close to my age. All too often, I've come across stories about younger women and the stories featured may appeal to a particular generation or group of women, neither of whom would sit next to me at Starbucks. But, this story is different.
This novel, unlike other romance novels, does not have the detailed sex scenes. Now, the author alluded to the sex scenes, without revealing graphic details of the act itself. We get to feel the emotions leading up to it, but we don't have to partake in the event along with the participants.
I will definitely read the next two books that this author has written.
I recommend this book for my sisters close to, or over, 40 who are looking for something that they can relate to, such as dealing with young adult children, an ex-husband-turned-best friend, or finding new love.

Hello there! A little about me. A long-time Las Vegas native, I spend my days teaching computer technology to hormonal middle schoolers. I live with my husband of 20+ years and have a teenage daughter, grown son, and child of the furry persuasion. I'm a huge fan of The Walking Dead and Game of Thrones, as well as movies with stupid humor. Zoolander, Austin Powers, and Monty Python are some of my faves. And if you asked me where the best place in the world is, it would have to be Disneyland. I mean, it is the happiest place on Earth. I love to write about relationships, family as well as romantic, and my aim is to explore life's challenges with honesty and humor.
