Book Review: Secret Places Revealed by Paulette Harper
Secret Places Revealed, An Inspirational Fiction Romance Novel
Publication date: September 20th 2016
Genres: Romance, Christian Romance
A broken man, a woman on the run, a love that won’t be denied. Single—and very content--real estate developer Aaron Blackman is determined not to be in another relationship. He’s experienced enough drama to last a lifetime. The only thing garnering his attention now is his growing business. And he plans to keep it that way. Then Simone Herron waltzes into his life, beautiful and confident. Fighting to keep his promise to himself—to remain single-- he soon discovers that when it comes to love, some promises must be broken. After losing her fiancé in an untimely death, Simone Herron relocates. She desperately needs to put the past behind her and start a new chapter in her life. While love is the farthest thing from her mind, she experiences an attraction to the handsome Aaron Blackman that frightens her. She's built a wall around her heart, but can she find the strength and courage she needs to welcome love again? To do so, she must conquer her fears and allow God to put all of her broken pieces back to together.
In Secret Places Revealed, we meet two young professionals who are fighting a mutually strong attraction. Yet, their feelings are not easily swayed. Deciding to take a chance on love, Aaron and Simone surrender to the healing process and yield to the hand of God, as he ushers in the sweet romance they desire.
This unique love story, an extraordinary blend of love, suspense, humor, and natural human drama, delivers a truly inspirational message. With scriptures strategically placed and accurately quoted, the reader will unconsciously become uplifted. Perhaps Harper meant to do this, or perhaps not; but, subliminal messages are nestled within the pages for the discerning reader. Leave it to a preacher to drop spiritual nuggets in a book!
While devouring this book, I marveled at how Harper painted a beautiful portrait of a young black man and his brother. While they had their flaws and depicted typical male foolishness, it was refreshing to see my black men doing something other than slinging drugs or staging robberies.
It is important for me to reiterate that this heartwarming romance is nestled into the cornerstone of faith. Romance novels, especially those on the market today, miss the sweet essence of love and its innocence. Harper artfully creates a novel embracing the typical formulaic fictional plot development seen in the romance genre, without tainting the God-ordained love between a man and woman with filth and smut. This book fits neatly into the Christian Romance genre. There was no need to "clutch my pearls" while reading this novel. Sweet, clean romance!
