Corbin Stewart is a down-on-his-luck writer living in Paris, hopelessly blocked, hiding from the death of a daughter lost to cancer. When he witnesses the brutal attack of an old Romani man in a dark alley, he rushes to help. He chases off the attackers, three albino men wearing porcelain tragedy masks, but not before they stab the old man repeatedly. While Corbin tries to keep the man alive until help arrives, blood gets on his skin, in his eyes, into his mouth. The old man dies, but Corbin soon discovers that death isn't the end for the powerful Romani, and that the blood covering him carries part of the man's tormented soul with it.

Corbin is thrust into the middle of a war between two blood cults, the T'acho Rasa and the Fantomes de la Nuit. The battle rages in the sewers and catacombs beneath Paris. As the soul of the powerful Romani asserts itself, trying to take over its new host, Corbin sees the terrible plans the leader of the T'acho Rasa has to exact retribution on the world for centuries of Romani persecution. With the help of Margot, a woman he's just met but who is now bound to him in unexpected ways, he must try to stop both the T'acho Rasa and the Fantomes, preventing an unspeakable horror from being released into the world. But in the end, he discovers the cost may be a price a father should only have to pay once.

Book Review
Imagine being in Paris and trying to get your “writing mojo” back. Well, Corbin, in all of his endearing humility, is there. When he sees an older man being viciously attacked by some unsavory characters, he lends a hand. In a race to find the attackers, Corbin falls into a bloody vortex. Swirling around in a world where nothing is at all what it seems, he is yanked into the deadly realm of a tribe living underground. This group, of what I the devil’s rejects, has Corbin in their crosshairs and this is just the beginning.

The author’s skillful use of metaphors, exquisite descriptions, and masterful foreshadowing pulled me away from my currently stressful life. It felt as if I could see the story playing on before my eyes.

Needless to say, this book left me speechless. Jeff has an uncanny ability to make mere words leap off the page and engulf my mind in a labyrinth of horror. I LOVED IT.
