The land was too stark, harsh and demanding, intolerant of those seeking a soft life of leisure. And Baptists damned dancing as a sin and kept those pews rock hard so you’d stay wide awake for the preacher’s fiery reminder about the brimstone wages of sin.

Obediently, Shannon shuts her mouth and walks toward me, plopping down in the seat facing mine, placing her soda can on the table. “Only my mom would embarrass me just when I’m meeting you.”

D’Arcy had been too busy to allow herself to get caught up emotionally . Between manning the phones, juggling Milton’s schedule, and coordinating with food services and the like, she’d been on call twenty-four seven. As an African-American, she sympathized with some of what the protesters were saying, but thought a few of the demands were just silly, even damaging.

Feel the light , love, and peace you have accessed grounded in your body and through you deep down into Mother Earth . When it’s right for you, bring your awareness back completely, take a nice deep breath, and open your eyes.
